Our August Forum speaker was Christopher Scholz, Syracuse University Professor of Paleolimnology and Rift Basin Evolution. Chris spoke to OWLA about the Evolution of the Finger Lakes from Inception to Modern Times (with Special Emphasis on Owasco and Skaneateles Lakes).
Christopher's research focuses on recovering records of past climate and recent tectonic activity from lake basin deposits, and on the sedimentary basin analysis of extensional systems, with emphasis on lacustrine basins. Current research efforts are concentrated on the large lakes of tropical Africa, Oneida Lake & the Finger Lakes of Central New York, and Quaternary lake deposits in the Basin & Range province.
