Learn about OWLA, yacht club during an evening on Owasco Lake

Have you always wondered what the Owasco Watershed Lake Association is all about? Have you wanted to see what Owasco Yacht Club is all about? If so, you are invited to the fifth annual Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce Business After Five event hosted by OWLA and the Owasco Yacht Club from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 24.

OWLA, the Owasco Yacht Club and the chamber of commerce are teaming up to celebrate Owasco Lake. Join OWLA, club and chamber members for an evening of networking, fun, food, and fellowship on the shore of Owasco Lake. This year’s event will feature hors d’oeuvres, wine donated by the OWLA Board of Directors, and beer tastings offered by Owasco Lake Brewing Co. Bring your business card to be included in drawings for wine and lake-themed gifts.

The Business After Five event is the perfect time to build relationships in an informal, relaxed setting and learn about OWLA as well as upcoming chamber of commerce news and events. OWLA members will give a brief overview of the work OWLA has accomplished and some of the plans OWLA has for the future. OWLA board members will be happy to talk one-on-one with you about what OWLA does and what we plan to do in the future. Everyone is welcome. OWLA members are free!

OWLA is dedicated to the health of Owasco Lake and its watershed. Although OWLA is not the lake “police,'' we do whatever we can to protect and restore our precious Owasco Lake. We educate and inform at every opportunity. From finding and suppressing the deadly hemlock woolly adelgid that left unchecked will kill the hemlock forests and helping to shore up streams and tributaries to reduce runoff, OWLA serves to protect the Owasco Lake watershed. Through funding projects, fighting invasive species and tracking down excessive nutrients entering the lake, OWLA works on behalf of the lake.

Because OWLA is a citizen-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are only as strong as our membership. A growing membership helps us raise our voice loud and clear and OWLA board members will be on hand to help you join the cause. If you live near the lake, recreate on the lake, depend on the lake for your drinking water and/or your business, or just love the views, you need to join OWLA!

The Owasco Yacht Club is a unique, member-owned facility that has operated for over 100 years in a private, park-like setting. Members enjoy some of Central New York's best live music from June through September, alongside beautiful sunsets from our multiple picnic areas and large deck. The club also features Owasco Lake's only dining option, The Paddle and Plate.

Boat ownership is not a requirement for yacht club membership. While there is space for member-owned vessels, the club also provides kayaks, canoes, sailboats, paddleboards and a paddleboat for member use. Our facilities include a large, lifeguarded swimming area, a playground, a picnic pavilion, locker rooms, and a clubhouse. In addition to being the best vantage point for the July 3 fireworks, the club hosts several annual events, including a clambake, a wine pairing dinner and an Oktoberfest.

The Owasco Yacht Club is grateful for the Owasco Watershed Lake Association’s dedication to protecting Owasco Lake. We are proud to partner with the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce to highlight OWLA's important work and look forward to hosting our local business community for an evening of networking and fun.

Registration for the June 24 Business After Five event at Owasco Yacht Club is requested by calling the chamber of commerce at (315) 252-7291 or visiting cayugacountychamber.com.
